NABC was first established in 1953.  Over the last 54 years, NABC has been ministering to the needs of members, the community and the world.  NABC has a rich history and a bright future.  Below are some of the significant events that have taken place at NABC over the years.
 
 
1953 - Church organized on September 13; Reverend Raymond Collier begins ministry September 27; Sunday School, Training Union organized on October 4.

1954 - W.M.U. organized January 7.  First VBS June 16-26...104 enrolled.  Reverend William O'Dell begins ministry July 21.

1956 - First Educational unit completed - church membership 212.  Total receipts $23,469...mission established in Lenexa , KS ( Now Calvary Baptist Church. ).

1957 - Reverend Owen C. Dahlor begins ministry December 15.

1958 - First Forward Program of Church Finance - Goal: $36,944.

1961 - Groundbreaking for Sanctuary, November 12.  Robert Hughes called as Minister of Education.  Church Library organized.

1962 - Sanctuary completed.  Edward Damer called as Minister of Music.  Church membership 516.  Receipts, $55,831.

1963 - Edward Gilham called as Minister of Music.  Mission gifts $11,079.

1964 - First Annual Thanksgiving Breakfast. J.W.B. Chilton called as Minister of Music.

1965 - Formation of Boy Scout Troop.  Property south of Sanctuary purchased.

1966 - Carl Yessen called as Minister of Education.  Total receipts, $84,219.  Membership 768.  Mission giving $16,288.

1968 - Youth group to Glorieta.  Harry Taylor called as Minister of Music.  Receipts $114,711.  Carolyn Orbin called as organist.

1969 - Church membership 1053.  Mission gifts $23,433.

1970 - Education-Activities building constructed. Total receipts $140,038.

1971 - $176,00 budget.  "The Nazarene" presented by Sanctuary Choir at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School .  Youth Choir mission tour to Texas .

1972 - John Burnham called as Minister of Education.  Dale Phillips called as Activities-Youth Director.  Youth Choir mission trip to Kentucky , Tennessee , Missouri .  Bill Spencer Evangelistic Crusade, 52 decisions recorded.  Total gifts $188,604.  Mission established in Olathe , KS ( Now Vista Baptist Church. ).

1973 - Day Care Ministry established.  Blood Bank program began.  Westport Baptist   church votes to disband, offers property to Nall Avenue Baptist Church .

1974 - Lottie Moon goal $3,000.  Church budget $212,000.  Membership 1310.  Bill Reedy comes as Minister of Youth.

1975 - Bill Lewis called as Minister of Education.

1976 - Building Committee recommends we build Christian Life Center .  Church purchases Handbells.  Budget $236,000.  Church membership 1436.  Bill Anderson called as Minister of Youth.

1977 - Ben Ortiz called to begin bilingual ministry at Westport .  Ed Otto called as Minister of Music.  Lowell Clark called as Minister of Education.  Budget $254,000.

1978 - Construction of Christian Life Center .  Budget $298,000.  25th anniversary observance.

1980 - Ray Hildebrand called as Minister of Youth/Activities.  Bob Clark called as Minister of Education.  Total giving $357,469.

1981 - Church assumes responsibility for Clear Creek , KS Mission (Now First Southern Baptist Church of Lenexa).  Initiates a monthly "Feed the Hungry" offering.

1982 - Owen C. Dahlor recognized for service as Pastor of Nall Avenue Baptist Church for 25 years.  Stewardship Committee organized.

1983 - Church upgrades work with Laotian people to mission status and calls Thira Siengsukon as Pastor of the work.  A.L."Pete" Butler called as Minister of Music.  Church observed 30th Anniversary.

1984 - Mike Fetters called as Minister of Youth and Activities.  Mission in DeSoto started.  Total receipts $467,629.  Church membership 1534.  Twenty percent of all receipts go to mission causes.

1985 - "Matthew 25" fellowship started.  “Prayer for Spiritual Awakening Conference” held.  Tape ministry begun.  "Let's Show We Care" (Famine relief effort for Ethiopia ) takes place.  Youth to Centrifuge.  Held first Peanut Butter, Coat, Toy, Mitten, Sweater, and Fan Sundays.

1986 - Summer Recreation Camp begun.  Single's Day Out started.  Established Louisburg , KS . Mission .   KNCSB Handbell festival at NABC. "Together We Can" campaign pledged $800,000+ over a three year period.  Spring Revival with Harold Bryson, Fall Revival with Magician Felix Snipes.  First "Hanging of the Green" Service at Christmas time.

1987 - Mother's Day Out started.  Long Range Planning Study Group formed. Stan Jones called as Minister of Music.  Pastor's 30th Anniversary Party here.  Parkway Baptist Chapel started  ( Now Parkway Baptist Church ).  Steve Reed called as Pastor for satellite ministry ( Became College Heights Baptist Church ).

1988 - Youth on Mission trip to Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in North Dakota . Established 1st Southern Baptist Church there.  Neil Brown called as organist.  Note burning service held, church has no debt!

1989 - Youth return to Turtle Mountain .  Pony Express stewardship campaign pledges 98% of budget.  Laotian Seminary began.  Owen Dahlor resigned on November 12, ending 32 years of ministry as Pastor of Nall Avenue Baptist Church. 

1990 - Third youth trip to Turtle Mountain .  First Laotian seminary graduation.   Called Dr. James E. Reynolds as pastor.  Children's Bible Drill Club begun.

1991 -   Called Dick Dearwester as Minister of Youth/Singles.  Revival with Roy Buckelew, evangelist and John Montgomery, music.  Called David L. Farris as Minister of Music.  Commissioned Thira and Montira Siengsukon to Mission Service Corps.  Licensed 3 Laotians to preach gospel.  Called Clifford Bennett to pastor Louisburg Community Church .  Christian Home Emphasis programs.  Estate and budget planning seminar.  Dr. Larry McSwain here for "God's Plan for the Future" evangelism conference.  Stewardship praise dinner and service.  Second Laotian graduation.  Twenty-seventh annual Thanksgiving breakfast.  Hanging of the Greens.  Budget of $532,103.

1992 - Church family members birthday party.  Lay Evangelism School .  Ron & Pat Owens here for "Prayer for Spiritual Awakening".  Wills and trusts seminar.  Youth to Louisburg for mission trip.  Joint NABC/Laotian congregation potluck.  50 youth and sponsors to Super Summer.  Weekly bible study and fellowship time begun at Life Care Center of Overland Park.

1993 - Hurricane Andrew relief and flood relief.  Christmas in August.  Clothing, food, toy, coat, sweater, hat, gloves, blanket Sundays.  Youth/Singles mission trip to Plainville , KS .  Youth sponsored revival by Terry McIlvain, Ray Hildebrand, Paul Land.  14.5% weekly to missions.  Annual budget $602,660.  Fall Revival with Roy Moody and Terry Brooks.  Christian Home Emphasis weeks.  Participated in Viola Webb Day at Webster Conference Center .  67 youth and sponsors to Super Summer.   Celebrated 40th Anniversary with banquet, praise and thanksgiving worship service, open house, alumni choir, exhibits and food drive.  Fall revival with Harold Bryson and Harry Taylor.  3 town hall meetings.  Experiencing God sessions.  30th annual Thanksgiving breakfast.  Peanut butter, coat and sweater Sundays, Christmas in August.  Operation Holiday for single parents. 

1994 - Annual budget $595,298.  Adult choir exchange with Mt. Zion Baptist Church , Kansas City, MO.  Christian Home Emphasis weeks.  Exceeded goals on Annie Armstrong, Viola Webb and Lottie Moon offerings.  Men's Rally with Les Reed.  Ladies Brunch with music group "Three for One".  Called Mary Jo Troughton as Minister of Missions and began multi-housing ministry emphasis.  69 Youth and Sponsors to Super Summer.  Called Steve Holt as Minister of Music/Senior Adults.

1995 - Ed and Diana Stucky called as Co-Ministers of Missions with responsibilities in multi-housing ministry. Four "Festival of Faith" Sundays in lieu of spring revival. (Speakers were Mack Roark, Jerry Cain, Harold Bryson, and James Harper.) Had summer missionary, Mary Lou Allan, from Florida . Working Together to Improve the Picture campaign raised $53,000 over and above budget for building repairs. Youth/Singles took mission trip to Craig , Colorado .  Organized "

1996 - Did multiple performances of Easter drama; distributed tickets throughout the community.  Did community distribution of batteries with note about Jesus as the APower for Life.@

1997 - Entered into partnership with Kansas-Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists whereby Dick Dearwester would serve as part-time employee of state convention with responsibilities in Family Ministry.  Called Grant Mong as Associate in Youth and Children=s Ministries.

1998 - Helped Louisburg congregation build first unit.  Adopted a Aone Sunday School@ schedule.  Began AKids Sunday Night Adventure Zone.@  Youth mission trip to Lampe , MO.

1999 - Called Ryan Hitchcock as Minister of Music/Senior Adults.  Youth mission trip to Greeley , CO .

2000 - Called John Leonard as Minister to Singles Adults.  Took 75 people to Glorieta , NM for Centrifuge/SS Week activities.

2001- Called Bryan Hutchings as Director of Youth Ministries, called Heidi Hildebrand Knappen as Director of Childhood Ministries. Youth mission trip to Crawford , NE.

2002-Called Carolyn Barnette as Director of Collegiate/Single Adult Ministries; Youth Mission Trip was to Denver Colorado , part of LifeWay’s M-Fuge program.

2003 –.Called Jennifer Abercrombie as Director of Childhood/Youth Ministries. Took 24 people to Green Lake Conference Center for SS week. Youth/Collegiate/Single Adult Mission Trip to Tyler , TX .  Celebrated 50th Anniversary.

2004-  Adopted Master Site Building Plan

2005- Worked with TLC Ministries to raise funds for Building upgrade/addition (New Foyer, New Ground Level Classrooms and Library; complete Remodel of Sanctuary; Relocation of Office Complex; Remodel of New Children’s and Youth Space.) Pledges exceeded 2.0 Million Dollars.  Youth Mission Trip to Jamaica .

2006- Working with Harmon Construction, did Sanctuary Remodeling, Building of New Foyer , New Ground Level Classrooms and Library.  First Adult Mission Trip to Guadalajara , Mexico .  Church begins Upward Basketball & Cheerleading Ministry.

2007 – Kenny Warren called as Minister of Music, Adult Mission Trip returned to Guadalajara , Mexico .  Lori Andersen called as interim Director of Childhood Ministries.  Bob Clark retired July 1 as Minister of Education & Administration and begins service as interim Minister of Education on July 10.  Youth Mission Trip to Mexico
